Term 2, new beginnings, and new challenges for people all over the world.
In our course we started exploring and learning about Opera and Carnival. In groups we began exploring both medias focused on the Libretto of "L'Enfant et les Sortilèges" by Colette and the composer Maurice Ravel.
Our character focus was the Maman, who appears at the start of the opera and is called out for at the ending, leaving the audience with wonder.

The challenge was to tell the story of the Opera in "carnival form". The parade of every carnival is able to tell a story, despite each audience member seeing only parts of it. Through research we came across companies, events, and designers who have come across all fields of performing arts to create a carnival.
Curious to see details and the initial model?
Ideas and designs changed from the start as a natural part of the process as well as time and budget limitations. However, it came out grande, and tells a story.
