For the most recent project, 'Speculative Design Project for a classic play', we were invited to go on a Site visit of the Nottingham Playhouse.

There we met with the Theatre manager, who showed us around backstage and the different seating areas in the auditorium.

This site visit was vital as it was the first project which would be designed for a real theatre space with sight-lines which needed to be taken into careful consideration when designing.

The tour also included an introduction into what was available to use in the theatre:

- trucks

- a flexible auditorium (seats can be removed and added at the front)

- a full flying system

- masking

- Platforms

- Gauze

- Revolve

- and more.

The theatre seemed to provide us with endless opportunities to incorperate into our design. However free this might have appeared to be at the beginning was changed when we realised how restricted several sight-lines were for audience members. These could hinder the audience from seeing important parts of the set, which would be a shame.

The images above are of the seating in the Ring, looking down at the set, and an interesting circle on which some of the lighting can be attached to
