Two weeks, one opera, one site outside of the conventional theatre space. Another opportunity to explore the options of performance art and design.

Through a collaberation session with Architecture students at the University, we learned basic principles about Architecture. With the combination of seminars in which we connected with the Genius Loci of the Arkwright building in Nottingham, we began viewing spaces with new eyes.

One of the purposes of site-specific theatre is to extract the meanings and qualities of the space and allow them to influence the final piece. It should highlight the relationship between ourselves and our physical environment through art and stories. We learned the history of the building and introduced the French opera "L'Enfant et les Sortilèges" into the space. We learned about the importance of audience design, and how in site-specific theatre, the practitioner needs to accept that there will be less control over them.
