The Gallery, a play

In 3 weeks The Gallery came to life. From the work of Ameline Tangen Sørgen

Kristina Munkova, the relationships of people within the same space were explored, with tension, humour, and love, the characters interacted with each other.

The co-directors and co-writers took me onto this project to realise their vision through set and costume design. Through rehearsals and meetings we collaborated on the visual aspects of character and location creation, challenging us to creatively solve problems and curate a gallery for one night.

It was fun to create the experience and mysterious sculpture centre-stage, building up the curiosity of the audience with…. No reveal? This did not stop us from playing with hiding a miniature model of the set as the sculpture, emphasising on The Gallery being the main art event, and the audience being inside of it too.

Show day came, and the audience loved it. Positive feedback for the creators and actors, and the immersing the audience into the Gallery space as if it were a real one, was a hit. The Theatre was filled with joy and magic, shared love for each other, sprinkled tension and an explosive fight, a community was formed and held together.

Going through this process reminded me of the love I have for theatre-making, collaboration, design, and creative problem-solving that is unique to performance art. The cast was eager and filled with beautiful people bringing life to the space and their characters, expertly directed by Ameline and Kristina.

Through curating a gallery, I was able to exhibit a piece of my own! A shoutout to Brauneck, a place I can call home.
